I am speaking in general terms on this, but in my opinion, the three hardest positions in sports are: hockey goalie, MLB catcher, and NFL QB. I cannot imagine trying to stop a hockey puck from coming in at that speed, not to mention all the traffic that comes in front of the net. I played catcher briefly in minor league baseball, but to be a catcher in the Major Leagues seems extremely difficult, especially on pitches that miss the mark or that have such movement on them. Lastly, the NFL QB position has got to be so difficult. I think of all the QB's who are good in college, hell even great, and when they make it to the pros, they just cannot cut it. The speed of the game, the playbook, and the competition level—I wouldn't want any parts of those three. Anyone have another take or position to add to the list?

I think a fat stubby goalie with those huge pads and a huge glove and stick has it easy
QB has 2-3 seconds to make a choice and has 300 lb blockers fighting for you.
MLB catcher knows where the ball is going as he calls the pitches and with years of practice as you know comes natural.
Basketball Players be in shape , be tall, jump high, and you can ball.
Golfers usually have time to practice most of their youth as they are privileged and need to have nerves of steel.
Tennis players need special genetics and have mental fortitude to succeed
Racing Car Drivers most RXers can do the NASCAR circuit And place top 50
Bowling , need good forearm and wrist strength but easy for most athletes can get 200
Soccer, , be in shape, foot work early, out hustle opponent quickness agility matters
Horse Jockey, Equine Athletes , 125lbs person control 1300lb horse go 40mph could get injured

I think a Major League Hitter has it the most difficult trying to make a choice in 0.125 seconds, not to mention the ball could be moving curving knuckling splitting spinning etc. plus could hurt you if beaned. I have said this before a baseball player can play and succeed at most of the major sports and not look foolish ,hockey players would be a close second. Majority football players, basketball players can’t even hold a bat right let alone throw a baseball accurately.

MMA fighter or Boxer
None of the previous answers compare .

Hard to compare a wild pitch in baseball or a QB getting sacked in football to Mike Tyson punching your lights out or an MMA fighter getting beat .

notice how all the MMA fighters ears are deformed ?
They all look like Dumbo from all the hits to the side of the head

You can also add rodeo Bull rider to the list

And rugby is much more brutal then anything American football can offer

So you are saying being a Rugby player is "more difficult" than being an NFL QB.
I can't buy that for a second.

I know it's the popular answer, but I just don't see how it can be anything other than QB

Just too much they have to do & too many decisions they have to make
